International Admissions
UMES is certified by the Immigration and Naturalization Service for acceptance and certification of international students.
International students should apply well in advance (a six month period is recommended) of the beginning of the Fall or Spring semester in the prescribed manner. The application must be complete in all respects and must be accompanied by proof of financial self-sufficiency, and knowledge of English. Students from non-English speaking countries should forward the results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). This test is administered by Educational Testing Service, Princeton, New Jersey 08450.
International students must request their high schools or secondary schools or other institutions of higher education to forward official copies of their transcripts, mark sheets, diplomas or degrees directly to the Office of Admissions. Documents attached to the application will not normally be accepted unless certified by United States officials abroad. All foreign college transcripts must be evaluated by a foreign credentials evaluation agency, even if the transcript is in english. Students must also remember to send our University the official college transcript along with the official evaluation. Failure to send both will delay the admissions process and hinder your ability to study at our Institution. Please see a list of suggested foreign credential evaluation agencies below.
International students must also send in a certificate of finance along with a bank statement proving that they have at least $23, 000 dollars per year, in order to attend the University. Failure to submit any of the above materials will delay your application evaluation.
