Welcome to the Center for Access
and Academic Success (CAAS)
What is CAAS?
The purpose of the Center is to provide students with access to academic services which strengthen students’ performance and promote student success and retention. The staff is comprised of highly trained and caring professionals who are dedicated to helping students achieve academic persistence and success at UMES.
The Center is staffed by Faculty andAcademic Coaches, who assist students with life problems, as well as educational and academic advisement. AllAcademicCoaches consider Faculty Advisement to be paramount to student success and will thus defer to Faculty recommendations when advising students. Students will experience caringAcademicCoaches who take a holistic approach to serving students by exploring multiple aspects of service for the same student over a period of time.

Our core values are based upon: leadership, brotherhood, professionalism, integrity, and respect, academic excellence, practicing high ethical standards, and being community stewards.
Male students’ success is a major concern in our nation. The recent launch of President Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper Initiative, shows that even at the national level there is a commitment to ensure male students do not continue to fall behind, but will become leaders and change agents in society. This one-day summit will provide thought provoking workshops, networking opportunities and engage our students in dialogue relevant to their success. Our goal is for students to leave the summit empowered and have the tools necessary to successfully navigate through their personal lives and professional careers.
The day will begin at 8:00 am at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's Student Services Center Ballroom. The day will include:
- Leadership Workshops
- Continental Breakfast
- Giveaways & more
