How to Compare Construction Management Programs

No one program is the right program for all students. No matter what schools you are considering, here are some questions to ask when comparing programs and opportunities. (And as you explore this website, you will see that the UMES CMT Program offers these advantages and more…)

Program
Square
Is there a reasonable expectation that the program can be completed in four years?
Square
Does the faculty have “real world” experience in the construction industry?
Square
How do students obtain “real world” experience? Are internships and seminars available? Does the school help with placements?
Square
Is there a support program for students who need extra time/help bringing math and science skills up to speed?
Square
Does the program have an advisory council of industry professionals? What kind of input do they have in the program?

Lifestyle
Square
What percentage of CMT students live on campus?
Square
How do students travel to and from internships?
Square
Are there major-focused support programs such as a student chapter of the National Association of
Home Builders and/or a chapter of Sigma Lambda Chi Honor Society (both at UMES) for added experience and recognition?

Financial Aid
Square
What percentage of students qualify for financial aid?
Square
Is there someone on the CMT staff who can help identify opportunities?

Placement
Square
What percentage of CMT program graduates received/took CMT jobs last year and in previous years?
Square
What companies are graduates currently working in? At what levels?
Square
Will the school connect you with Alumni who can speak about the program?
