Welcome to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Office of Counseling Services Website.
The Counseling Services office is under the leadership of the Division of Student Life and Enrollment Management. Our mission is to assist students in personal growth, academic success, mental health, emotional well being and psychosocial development. We believe in a holistic approach to wellness and well being because all areas of our lives should work in harmony and balance.
Through personal counseling, support groups, workshops and other activities of the department, we are committed to assisting students in improving personal and social skills, developing increased confidence and self-esteem, and solving problems in order to grow in ways that will allow them to take advantage of the educational opportunities that the university has to offer.
Students come to Counseling Services for a variety of challenges and concerns. Typical reasons for seeking counseling include academic concerns, stress, family issues, problems with friends and roommates, depression, anxiety, romantic relationships, sexual orientation, grief and loss and eating disorders to name a few. Most students are seen for short term counseling by our professional counseling staff.
In Counseling Services we have developed ongoing collaborative relationships with a number of University of Maryland Eastern Shore departments as well as community organizations. We are also available for consultation to faculty, students, peer mentors, paraprofessionals and other staff who are concerned about other students, friends, or roommates.
Most of our services are free and all of our services are confidential. This website contains many resources we hope you will find beneficial. Feel free to visit our office any time.
Sincerely,
Melanie L. White-Davenport, M.Ed., C.P.P.
