Judging Criteria:
Originality and Creativity; Successful application of the Library Theme:
“Serving Personally, Advancing Globally”; Quality of craftsmanship in the chosen
medium.
Theme and Dates:
The Library Logo Theme “Serving
Personally, Advancing Globally” encompasses the history and experiences of the
Frederick Douglass Library. The winning Logo will be used in an infinite number
of ways to represent and promote the Frederick Douglass Library to students,
faculty and the community-at-large.
Entry Form & Method of
Submissions:
An Official Entry Form will be available
in the Library and on-line at the Library Website. Entries must be submitted in
pdf or tiff file, in 300 dpi. Multiple submissions are allowed.
Entry Deadline:
All entries must be received in the
Library Dean’s Office by 9 a.m. March 10, 2008, whether delivered by hand,mailed or e-mailed. The Library’s decisions are final.

Contest Submissions:
University of Maryland Eastern Shore,

Eligibility and Guidelines:
1. You must be 18 years of
age or older to enter and provide proof if selected by the first round of
judging. Void where prohibited by law.
2. The competition is open to all currently
enrolled UMES students.
3. To receive a prize, you must be located in the
United States.
4. The logo must not contain any copyrighted images
such as datamined texture, artwork, screenshots, clip art, etc.
5. The logo should be usable in monochrome and
color media, including limited colors such as 2 or 3 colors and compliment the
University of Maryland
Eastern Shore’s Logo.
6. The logo should be usable in various sizes and
scales.
7. The logo must not exploit or offend anyone’s
sex, race, religion, nationality, morality, culture and may not be salacious or
pornographic.
8. All submissions must be created by the sender.
9. The contest prize minimum is $50.00 and the
winner must supply complete contact information.
Jury Process:
Two rounds of judging will take
place. The first round will take place in the Library with the Library Logo
Committee/Library Staff selecting the top 3 entries by anonymous vote. Three
jars for “voting pennies” will be placed in the Library, each one representing
one of the three selected final entries. Students, Staff and Faculty may vote
by depositing pennies in the jar representing the entry they judge to be the
best. Prior to final selection, slight design alteration requests may be sent
to each or any of the three finalists with a request for resubmission. In case
of a tie, the Dean of the Library, Shelia M. Bailey will cast the final
tie-breaking vote. The Dean of the Library’s decisions are final.
Exhibit Date:
The winning entry will be on display in
the Library March 24, 2008, unless the contest is reopened and the deadline is
extended. The Library Logo Committee reserves the right to reopen and extend
the contest.
Awards:
The 1st place winner will be awarded all the pennies in all three jars. Fifty dollars is guaranteed.
The 2nd and 3rd place winners will receive 2nd and 3rd place certificates.
Disclaimer:
1. The Library reserves the right to
extend the deadline to the satisfaction of the Library Logo Committee/Library
Staff.
2. The Library Logo Committee’s, the Library Staff’s and the Dean of the
Library’s decisions and votes are final.
Copyright Assignment:
- All
submissions become the property of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore;
submissions may be published or otherwise re-used in any medium. The
University of Maryland Eastern Shore obtains the right, without limitation, to
use, edit, and publish, in whole or in part, any and all Submissions in any
media whatsoever, without time or geographical restrictions, without providing
any additional compensation or consideration to Participants.
- Participation in the Library Logo Contest will be conclusively deemed to be a waiver of any and all claims, including for publicity, invasion of privacy, defamation and ownership and use of Submissions.
- Participants shall be solely
liable for any injury or damage caused by participation in the Contest
and, by participating, agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and by the
decisions of the Judging Panel, which decisions are final. Participants agree
that the University of Maryland Eastern Shore or it’s parent organizations are
not liable for any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by (or
claimed
to be caused by) the creation of a Submission, the participation in the
Contest
and/or being selected or disqualified as a Selected Submission.
- The winner will be required to complete copyright assignment paperwork before receiving the prize.
- Participants shall be solely liable for any injury or damage caused by participation in the Contest and, by participating, agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of the Judging Panel, which decisions are final. Participants agree that the University of Maryland Eastern Shore or it’s parent organizations are not liable for any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by (or claimed to be caused by) the creation of a Submission, the participation in the Contest and/or being selected or disqualified as a Selected Submission.
