Access Science: The Online Encyclopedia of Science & Technology

Access Science is a Maryland Digital Library (MDL) database that allows users to search, retrieve, and view biographies, definitions and data, tables & tools.

To access the Access Science database, follow the steps below:

  1. Access the Frederick Douglass Library’s homepage at www.umes.edu/fdl
     
  2. Click on the link ‘Databases (Find articles, full text, and more)’
     
  3. Select the Reference category
     
  4. Click on the subcategory Dictionaries/Encyclopedias
     
  5. Then, Click on the database titled ‘Access Science
     

There are several searching features available in the Access Science database:

bullet Basic and advanced searching of both the encyclopedia and dictionary
bullet Choose a Topic - locate information using broad subject categories
bullet Biographies of scientists
bullet The Student Center provides access to essay topics, study guides, and other learning resources
bullet Review Headline News from the science community
bullet And read new articles available in the encyclopedia

To search Access Science, follow the steps below:

  1. In the search box, type in the desired topic and click on go

  1. Select the desired article by clicking on the title

  1. The results look like this.  Notice that the search terms are highlighted
  1. To print or email, use the key above the article
