Academic Search Premier

 

Academic Search Premier (ASP) is one database in a collection of databases that the Library subscribes to from EBSCOhost.  ASP provides access to information in nearly every area of academic study including: social sciences, humanities, education, computer sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, language and linguistics, arts & literature, medical sciences, medical sciences, ethnic studies, and many more.  In addition, ASP contains the full text of approximately 3,600 periodical/serial titles.

 

To access the Academic Search Premier database, follow the directions below:

 

  1. Access the Library’s home page (www.umes.edu/fdl)

 

 

  1. Click on ‘Databases (Find articles, full text, and more)’

  2. Select the 'Multidisciplinary' category

  3. Click on the link for 'Academic Search Premier

 

 

 

On the basic search screen, there are several search methods available:

 

·        Standard Search – Allows you to either broaden or narrow a search by using Boolean Operators (AND, OR, and NOT)

o       AND – allows you to narrow your search by combining search terms so that all of the results must contain all of the search terms used

o       OR - allows you to broaden your search by combining search terms so that the results contain at least one of the search terms used

o       NOT - excludes search terms so that the results DO NOT contain that particular search term

·        All Words – Automatically implies the Boolean Operator AND

·        Any Words – Automatically implies the Boolean Operator OR

·        Exact Phrase – Allows you to enter a phrase or sentence to search

 

NOTE: You may limit your results to: Full Text, Magazine name, Peer Reviewed publication, periodicals available in the Library, and the full text from JSTOR.

 

To search Academic Search Premier, follow the directions below:

 

1.      In the search box, type in your search term(s)



 

2.      Decide on the search method wanted and
    click on the ‘Search’ button

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The results will look like this, read the abstract and click on either the HTML Full Text or PDF Full Text links to access the full article.

NOTE:  For records that DO NOT contain the full text, you will see a Click Here for Full Text and other services button.  Please refer to the Find it handout for information about this feature.
