Department of Food Science and Technology
Salary Range: $32,271 - $53,300
Personnel Status: Nonexempt, Full-time, and Regular
Responsibilities: Assume primary responsibilities for laboratory maintenance and analysis of seafood samples under terms of the grant; visit Maryland crab processing facilities for sample collection and maintaining contact with industry partners; document project findings; assist with report preparation for granting agency and industry participants; present results to constituent groups; and regularly meet with supervisor and constituents to coordinate program and re-direct efforts as warranted. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Bachelors degree in a biological, chemical or agriculture/plant Science required. Masters degree preferred. Recent experience isolating microorganisms from whole foods required. Experience Assuming responsibility for the daily functions of a laboratory (microbiology/food chemistry) required. Extension or industry experience working with food processors is a plus. The candidate must have the following required skills: demonstrated ability to oversee and implement an approved laboratory protocol; possess good laboratory technique and organizational skills; be knowledgeable in the use of Microsoft Access, Excel and Word software programs; and have demonstrated ability to document findings and communicate project results/status with supervisor, students and partners as appropriate. Valid drivers license required. Must be willing drive as necessary.
