The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) invites resumes for a full-time, exempt position with benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Assistant Dean will be the chief administrative officer overseeing the Health Professions, which includes the Department of Exercise Science, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, and Rehabilitation Services, and will report to the Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions (SPHP).
Essential Duties: Provides leadership for the faculty and staff of the Health Professions (Exercise Science, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Rehabilitation Services) in the areas of strategic planning, budget management, and resource enhancement. Also included are external funding, implementation and evaluation of the academic programs, course offerings and support programs, service and patient care programs; compliance assurance with university, department, program policies and procedures; oversight of recruitment, retention and evaluation of department chairs, faculty, staff and students; maintenance of professional accreditations and other quality and performance indicators; development of the research program and service components; representation of the School to internal and external constituencies; and oversight responsibility for dissemination of information, directives and requirements of the SPHP and the Division of Academic Affairs. Teaching load for this position is six semester hours per semester. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in one of the disciplines/fields in the School. Five or more years of experience in academic program(s) administration. Evidence of research and scholarly contributions in one of the degree programs in the School. Eligible for Associate Professor or Full Professor Rank. Demonstrated experience in planning, budgeting, personnel and financial management, research and scholarly activities, professional accreditation, fundraising, technology applications, and support program services. Strong interpersonal, communication, and management skills required. Knowledge of the needs of a culturally diverse student population and commitment to faculty and staff diversity required.
