Applications and nominations are currently being accepted for the position of Chair of the Department of Exercise Science in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. This position is a 12-month appointment and reports directly to the Assistant Dean of the School Pharmacy and Health Professions. The Department of Exercise Science is one of four departments in the Health Professions portion of the School.
Responsibilities: The Chair is the administrative and academic officer of the department and is responsible for curricula and new program development, administering and monitoring departmental budget, attending to personnel matters, providing accreditation leadership, and vigorously pursuing grants to support departmental initiatives. The Chair must also maintain an effective record of teaching and scholarly activities. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Earned doctorate in exercise physiology, kinesiology or related fields required. The candidate's teaching, scholarship, and service profile must be commensurate with tenure-track appointment at the rank of associate or full professor. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated successes in securing competitive grants, or who have demonstrated fund-raising successes. Leadership in research will be added advantage for the candidates. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is a land grant, historically black college founded in 1886. The campus located on 546 acres of land in the small town of Princess Anne on the Eastern Shore of Maryland between the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The area is quiet and ideally suited for learning and teaching environment yet it is only three hours by car from the abundant cultural and recreational facilities of Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia. The state's famous seaside resort, Ocean City, is only one hour from the campus. The area is known for many outdoor activities such as camping, hunting, fishing, crabbing, golfing and boating.
