Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites resumes for a full-time, tenure track position in Computer Science. Position is available August 2013. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities: Teach twelve (12) credit hours for undergraduate and graduate Computer Science courses per semester (which may include web-based or other non-traditional instructional delivery methods)in a range of IT courses in areas including programming (e.g., C++, JAVA, SQL, HTML, and/or scripting languages), networking, desktop applications, information security, systems analysis, and/or database management; assist course coordinators in identifying and implementing pedagogical practices that increase student learning and mastery; assist in developing study plans to actively engage students in the learning process; attend, organize, and execute recruitment events; develop contacts with high school counselors and teachers to highlight various Departmental programs. Candidates would be required to pursue quality research in computer science and related areas leading to results publishable in relevant journals. The successful candidate would be required to establish a schedule of office hours and other content reinforcement activities to support students during non-lecture times. Performs other related duties as assigned by Department Chair.
Qualifications: Doctorate in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related area is required. Candidates possessing ABD status will be considered. Candidates possessing expertise in the areas of software engineering, human-computer interaction, computational systems biology (with bioinformatics), cyber security, database, automated/semi-automated synthesis of hardware/software will be given preference. Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate fundamental computer science content to students is required. Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks, to assess and order priorities and to track details in an intense environment. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Candidates must provide evidence of ability to be productive in teaching undergraduate and graduate coursework and in research/scholarship. Ability to get along with others required.
