Department of Mathematics and Computer Science
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites resumes for a full-time, non-tenure track position in Mathematics. Position is available August 2013. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities: Teach twelve (12) credit hours of fundamental mathematics (intermediate algebra through college algebra) courses per semester which may include web-based or other non-traditional delivery methods; assist the Office of Access and Academic Success and other campus tutorial units in identifying staffing; scheduling, and promoting resources for students; developing monitoring and tracking mechanisms to determine the effectiveness of program activities; assist course coordinators in identifying and implementing pedagogical practices that increase student learning and mastery; assist in developing study plans to actively engage students in the learning process; attend, organize, and execute recruitment events; and develop contacts with high school counselors and teachers to highlight various Departmental programs. The successful candidate would be required to establish a schedule of office hours and other content reinforcement activities to support students during non-lecture times. Performs other related duties as assigned by Department Chair.
Qualifications: Master's degree required preferably in Mathematics. Candidates possessing a Master's degree in Mathematics Education with extensive course work in graduate level mathematics (at least 18 credit hours in graduate level mathematics) will be considered. A strong written and verbal communication skill including the ability to effectively communicate fundamental mathematical content to students is required. Must have familiarity with current successful pedagogical strategies, computing, management, and instructional assistance software such as MyMathLab, WebAssign, Blackboard, etc., and other practices that lead to increased levels of learning and mastery in mathematics. Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks, to assess and order priorities and to track details in an intense environment. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to get along with others required.
