Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

Responsibilities: Assist Mathematics Instructors in developing robust co-curricular mathematics laboratory; coordinate laboratory homework quizzes, and examination review including online and video formats; develop and update the Department's web portal to include archiving essential documents, review materials, and examinations; assist the Office of Access and Academic Success and other campus tutorial units in identifying staffing, scheduling and promoting support resources for students; develop monitoring and tracking mechanisms to determine the effectiveness of program activities; assist course coordinators in identifying and automating pedagogical practices that increase student learning and mastery; assist in developing study plans to actively engage students in the learning process; attend, organize, and execute recruitment events; recruit, hire, train, and supervise graduate and undergraduate tutors including payroll reconciliation; and develop contacts with high school counselors and teachers to highlight various Departmental programs. May be required to teach a fundamental mathematics course. Performs other related duties as assigned by Department Chair.
Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree required preferably in Mathematics or Mathematics Education. Candidates possessing a degree in science, engineering, or other technical areas will be considered. A strong written and verbal communication skill including the ability to effectively communicate fundamental mathematical content to students required. Must have familiarity with current successful pedagogical strategies, computing, management, and instructional assistance software such as MyMathLab, WebAssign, Blackboard, etc., and other practices that lead to increased levels of learning and mastery in mathematics. Must have the ability to handle multiple tasks, to assess and order priorities and to track details in an intense environment. Must have excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to get along with others required.
