Arthur L. Allen, PhD is Associate Professor and Associate Research Director-1890 Programs at University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES). Arthur serves as site manager, conjunction with Don Mahan (site technician) for the nutrient management site at UMES. Allen received his Doctor of Philosophy degree from University of Illinois-Urbana, soil chemistry/plant physiology, Master of Science from Oklahoma State University, soil chemistry, and Bachelor of Science, from University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Allen has been at UMES since 1996. He served as Chair of the Department of Agriculture (renamed: Department of Agriculture, Food & Resource Sciences) and Associate Research Director-1890 Programs from 1996 to 1999. Since that time, he has served as Associate Research Director-1890 Programs, and Director of UMES’s campus-wide Geospatial Information Technologies Program. He is responsible to a large degree for building this program at UMES. Before coming to UMES, he served as Dean and Associate Research Director at Virginia State University, and Research Director and Extension Administrator at University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Allen is responsible, in conjunction with USDA-ARS Pasture Systems and Watershed Management Research Unit at University Park, PA, for building the joint nutrient management, research site at UMES. In 2004, this site received a Nation Award of Excellence from the 1890 Association of Research Director and Association Extension Administrators.
