PRINCESS ANNE, MD - With a new half-hour daily program, WESM 91.3 offers the only agriculture radio show in Maryland. “On the Farm Radio-Eastern Shore” originates at the station’s studio on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
“I offer special thanks to Dr. Henry Brooks, Dan Kuennen and Kat Harting of the UMES Office of Cooperative Extension Service for helping us to conceptualize the idea as well as for putting us in touch with the commentator,” said Dr. Ronald Brown, vice-president for student life and enrollment management. “The Cooperative Extension group is also sponsoring the broadcast.”
“On the Farm” Radio broadcasts news and information geared toward the entire agriculture industry in the region, including poultry and livestock, crops and forages, horticulture, equine, etc. The radio program includes crop and livestock updates, market reports, agricultural weather reports, research, education, legislative issues, conservation and other information farmers and others involved in Delmarva agriculture can use. A feature of the program is the interviews that highlight area farmers and those working with them.
“On the Farm Radio – Eastern Shore” is hosted and produced by veteran broadcaster Jeff Ishee, who is also the host and producer of a public television program concerning Virginia agriculture.
“We are a land-grant university and are, therefore, fulfilling our mission in offering the community the only in-depth radio agriculture program,” said Marva Lovett, manager, WESM.
The show, which can be found on the FM dial at 91.3, airs at 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.
