UMES PROFESSIONAL SCIENCE MASTER’S DEGREE

Professional Science Master’s degree programs provide an alternate professional career path for bachelor’s degree holders in the STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics ) or Social Sciences (Economics), to meet staff needs of the private sector and the government.

The Graduate School at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is recruiting qualified students with strong quantitative backgrounds for admission into the Professional Science Master’s (PSM) Degree Programs in Quantitative Fisheries and Resource Economics.

The PSM programs will provide students with quantitative, communication, and leadership skills; and the knowledge required to obtain careers in natural resources, with a focus on fisheries management and conservation. The program is endorsed by the National Research Council.

Graduates of the programs will be competent to help meet the staffing needs of the government and private sector including international aid agencies, in order to effectively manage fisheries resources.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is situated in Princess Anne on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, near both the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, making it an excellent location for research in marine and estuarine science. The University supports well-funded undergraduate and graduate programs in marine and agricultural science and maintains state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, equipment, and a fleet of boats and university vehicles. The Paul S. Sarbanes Coastal Ecology Center, located at Assateague Island, MD is used to conduct field and laboratory studies in Maryland’s Coastal Bays.
