  1. When does the program begin?
    The first class of students will matriculate in the fall of 2010
  2. How do I apply?
    Application procedures will be posted summer 2009.
  3. What are the prerequisites for the School of Pharmacy?
    Please refer to the School's website at www.umes.edu/pharmacy for the prerequisite list.
  4. Is a lab component required for each science pre-requisite course?
    Yes, all science course pre-requisites (Biology, Chemistry, and Physics) must include a laboratory component. Advanced Placement courses are not accepted to fulfill science requirements.
  5. Will an interview be required?
    Yes. Interviews will be required for invited candidates only. Applicants will be contacted by phone inviting them to interview. All invited candidates must appear in person to be considered.
  6. Is there any benefit to having a Bachelor’s degree?
    A Bachelor’s degree is not required for admission. Students are eligible to be considered for admission to the School of Pharmacy after completing the equivalent of two years of college coursework, including pharmacy pre-requisite courses.
  7. Is there any advantage if I matriculate to UMES as an undergraduate student to work on pre-reqs? 
    For purposes of admission into the School of Pharmacy, we will not distinguish between currently enrolled UMES students and transfer students.
  8. Will Advanced Placement courses satisfy any of the pre-requisite requirements?
    Advanced Placement (AP) courses are accepted for non-science courses only with a grade of 3 or higher. An Advanced Placement Score Report must be provided to receive credit for AP courses.
  9. Are courses waived or substituted under any circumstances?
    The Admissions Committee does not waive or substitute courses. Matriculated students can request a course waiver by submitting a written petition to the School of Pharmacy Dean for consideration.
  10. How many students will be accepted into the program each year? 
    The UMESSchool of Pharmacy will accept 60 students into the program each year.
  11. How long is the program? 
    The Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree is awarded after successful completion of three full-time years of study at the UMES School of Pharmacy. The first two years of the curriculum include professional courses intended to provide both didactic and early pharmacy practice experiential learning. The third year consists of clinical rotations.
  12. Are students accepted into the Pharm.D. program during spring or summer semesters?
    No, the School of Pharmacy accepts students for fall admission only.
  13. Do you accept Foreign Credits?
    Foreign credits are NOT accepted; all prerequisite coursework must be completed at an accredited college/university in the United States or Canada.
  14. What is the minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) considered to apply?
    The minimum GPA required to apply is 2.75.
