How to Apply

The School of Pharmacy at UMES requires the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS), a centralized online application service utilized by the majority of pharmacy schools nationwide.  The School will also use the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) as one of its requirements necessary for application consideration. Applicants may have their PCAT scores submitted directly to PharmCAS (PCAT Code 0104) or to UMES (PCAT Code 0100).  Please contact the Psychological Corporation at 1-800-622-3231 or visit their website www.pcatweb.info for a PCAT application and additional PCAT information.  The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all students born outside of the United States, regardless of their residency status in the U.S.  It is the responsibility of all students required to take the TOEFL to have the test taken no later than January 31, 2011.  Please refer to the following website for test dates and locations of test sites www.ets.org/toefl/.  The code to have your scores reported to UMES is DI-5400.  The application deadline is February 1, 2011.

Below is a list of the required application materials:

  • PharmCAS Application (www.pharmcas.org) which includes: a personal statement (which outlines a student’s interest in pharmacy); 3 Letters of recommendation; PCAT Results (use PCAT codes 0104 or 0100); and, official transcripts from all regionally accredited colleges or universities previously attended
  • UMES School of Pharmacy Application Supplemental Application Fall 2011 which includes; a biographical sketch (a one page summary of who you are, what matters most to you, and how you would add value to the School of Pharmacy at UMES), passport photo, and a $25.00 supplemental fee.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore launched its newest doctoral studies program in August with the arrival of the inaugural class of pharmacy students.

Earning a spot in the first class was competitive. UMES received 931 applications and interviewed 150 prospective students for just 60 seats.

A week of orientation culminated with a “white (lab) coat” ceremony the day before classes formally started on Aug. 16.
