History of NASAP and The Student Leadership Institute!

The National Association of Student Affairs Professionals (NASAP), formerly known as the National Association of Personnel Workers, was founded in 1954 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC. 

NASAP is a professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence in Student Affairs. The organization serves as a beacon for student affairs personnel addressing the issues and needs of today’s college students.  It is on the leading edge regarding issues, solutions and professional development opportunities for student affairs professionals who serve minority populations in diverse settings around the country.  The focus of NASAP is to:

• Serve as a professional agency for the collection of research, the promotion of professional development and the implementation of effective student services program. 

• Develop and foster a spirit of unity and cooperation among members of the Student Affairs Profession and other related professionals, thereby enabling maximum assistance to students. 

• Systematically encourage individuals with the prescribed abilities and interests to enter the field of Student Services.

 In carrying out this mission, the Association provides professional development through conferences, workshops, and the NASAP Student Leadership Institute.  Our Motto is: “Work Is Love Made Visible.”
