Text Box: Founders’ Day, a celebration of the founding of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1886, took place during the week of September 19-24. A highlight of the weeks’ activities was having the Honorable Ricardo “Rick” Taylor as the Convocation keynote speaker on Tuesday, September 21. Taylor, Class of 1969, is the mayor of Pennsauken Township in Pennsauken, NJ. He took the audience back to the days when only five major buildings comprised what is known today as the Academic Oval. He talked kindly about his professors and the positive impact that the University had on his life. He reminded students that the time spent at UMES would indeed mold their character and influence their lives forever.
