In the tradition of the UMES, ASA alumni occupy leadership positions globally. From advising heads of governments to establishing entrepreneurial ventures based in or focused on the continent, ASA alumni continue to use their skills and leadership positions in the interests of Africa or people of African descent. A stated objective of ASA is to create a strong network comprising alumni, current students, African business leaders and those organizations with a strong interest in Africa’s economic future. In light of this objective, ASA is implementing a number of initiatives

AAA Endowment Fund

The University of Maryland Easternshore African Alumni Association endowment fund is slated for launch in Winter of 2007. AAA will use the endowment funds to support ASA or alumni directed events and initiatives that will ultimately drive growth and development on the continent. The proposed programs include loan forgiveness for returnees, scholarship programs for African students.

UMES ASA has established an up-to-date alumni database – a tool that will be invaluable to both alumni and current students alike. If you are a University of Maryland Easternshore alumnus of African origin or one who has a strong interest in Africa, please take the time to add or update your details by e-mailing us at www.ouokezie@umes.edu. Alternatively you can stay connected to ASA Alumni & students by registering at ASAConnect: www.umes.edu/asa. You may search for ASA and add it to your groups. This system is a great way for UMES ASA students/alums to network personally and professionally, reconnect with old friends, and stay connected to the UMES community.
