Dr. Kate Brown is currently Acting Chair of the Department, and is an Associate Professor with teaching specialties in Finance and Statistics. She received a Bachelor of Arts, Master of Business Administration, and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Connecticut. Prior to her appointment at UMES, Dr. Brown spent 17 years in New Zealand, where she was Chair of the Department of Finance and Quantitative Analysis at the University of Otago in Dunedin. Her experiences in New Zealand included a five year appointment on the New Zealand Commerce Commission. She has authored numerous publications in refereed journals, including one best paper awards. Her research interests include dividend policy, entrepreneurship, financial market analysis, mergers, and bankruptcy prediction. She developed the Finance Concentration for the Business Administration Major, and has introduced three new Finance courses since her appointment in 2005.
