Business Alumni Council Inaugurated PRINCESS ANNE -- The Department of Business, Management and Accounting at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore held the inaugural meeting of the Alumni Advisory Council during Homecoming Weekend in February.
Dr. Ayodele J. Alade, department chairman and acting dean for the School of Business and Technology, welcomed the alumni “back home” to launch the department to a new level.
“The department is enthusiastically moving forward in the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business accreditation process and the Council’s formation is one important step in meeting those requirements,” said Dr. Alade.
The council will also serve as a link between the current chair and the students.
William C. Niner; a 2000 alumnus, was elected president. Niner; a graduate of Thomas M. Cooley Law School, is a case manager with the Baltimore City Department of Social Services.
Elected vice president was LuCinda Seale-Comegys, an auditor for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP in McLean, Va.
Georgetta Robinson, a 2001 alumnus, was elected secretary. Robinson majored in Business Administration and is a Health Insurance Specialist for the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services in Baltimore.
Elected treasurer was Arnold King who works in the accounting field for Francis Awoyera & Associates in Washington, D.C. Alumni elected to serve as Council
Representatives are: the Rev. Bernadette Beckett, Devone Comegys, Louis Finney, Aaron King and Mike Revelle. Two faculty members will also serve on the Council: Dr. Dorothy Mattison, associate professor, and Dr. Bryant Mitchell, assistant professor.
The Council also approved a constitution and bylaws, formulated according to AACSB standards, during their first meeting. Members will be charged with assisting to increase alumni participation, serving in fundraising efforts, and helping to reach other objectives of the Department of Business, Management and Accounting.
Council Representative Louis Finney said he wanted “to give back to UMES and thinks the Alumni Advisory Council is a great place to start.” |
