How to Conduct a Cross Search

Cross Search allows you to search several databases at once even if they are not from the same vendor.  To use Cross Search:

  1. Click on the "Cross Search" tab.
  2. Select choose databases by "Subject categories."
  3. Select a subject category and subcategory (if applicable).
  4. Select the database(s) to be searched by clicking in the box to the left of the database.  If the box is already checked, that means it is cross searchable.
  5. Enter a search term or phrase.  You may also use the advanced search feature (shown)
  6. Click "Go" to begin your search.

While Research Port is searching, it lists the databases you are searching and the status of each.

Once the search is complete your results will be displayed.  You may then look at your results one database at a time by selecting "View results in other database" or you may combine the results.  If you combine the results you may sort them by relevance, title, author, year, or database.

From this point proceed as you normally would using Find It to locate the full-text of the article.
