RULES
AND PROCEDURES – 2004 SEASON
1. This is a handicap league! Handicaps for
participants will be computed after each player has completed three (3) rounds.
2. The league plays two eight-week
seasons; spring season begins
3. All league
rounds will be played at Great Hope Golf Course, located: 8380
Crisfield Highway, Westover,
·
Should you missed a scheduled round, you have two
options in which to complete the missed round: Option (1) play 9 holes at Great
Hope, within two-weeks of missing the scheduled round. Have your round verified and card signed in
the pro shop and turn in your card to Allen Sampson. Option (2) forfeit the missed round, which
your average plus 10 points will be recorded for that round as your final and
official score.
o
Missed rounds must be made up within two-weeks, or an
automatic forfeit will be recorded.
o
Missed rounds may be made up during scheduled league rounds,
either before or following scheduled league play. In either case, the round must be verified
and the score card signed in the pro shop.
4. In the case of inclement weather, play
status will be determined at
5. 2004 Green fees are $15.00 per golfer (for
persons who are not members of Great Hope).
Cart fees: $6.00 per golfer. Green and cart fees are paid at the
clubhouse, prior to tee-off. League fee:
$25.00 is due prior to or during the first league round each season.
6. Scoring
for awards will be based on each golfer’s net strokes (gross score minus
handicap) and point system.
7. No mulligans;
play the ball as it lies, i.e. no lift and place.
8. All golfers must declare and mark their
balls at the first tee to insure easy identification.
9. To speed play,
the maximum score for any one hole is double par, after which the golfer must
pick-up and move on to the play the next hole.
10. Foursome schedule of play will be set-up
on a rotating basis. The foursome will
change weekly, thereby allowing each golfer a chance to play with other league members. When possible, we will alternate weekly,
between the front and back nine holes, thereby exposing golfers to playing the
entire course.
11. Each foursome will have an experienced
player to assist in applying proper rules and guidelines; however, a few of the
major rules are as follows:
·
Out of bounds must be played again from a spot as
close as possible to the original with penalty stroke. If uncertain, a
provisional should be announced and played pending the determination of the
status of the original ball.
·
If your ball is determined to be an unplayable lie
(golfer is the sole judge), you have the choice of replaying from the original
location, dropping a ball within two club lengths but no closer to the hole or
dropping a ball behind where the ball lay, keeping that point directly between
the hole and the spot where the ball is dropped with no limit as to how far
back you may go. Each of these options incurs a penalty of one stroke.
·
If you enter a lateral hazard (water or environmental
sensitive area), you have a choice of playing a ball as near as possible to the
original spot or dropping a ball along the line of flight no closer to the hole,
under the penalty of one stroke.
·
On the green, all balls must be marked before you can
touch or move the ball.
12. Men will play form the white tees and
women from the red tees.
13. Other rules related to course etiquette are:
·
All golfers should stand outside of other player’s
field of vision when they are hitting.
·
Golfers should rake all sand traps after playing.
·
Golfers should follow general rules of the course
regarding golf cart operation; however, some general rules are to stay on cart
path on all par 3’s and carts should never be driven closer than 30 yards from
the green. This area is usually marked with signs or painted lines.
·
Players tee off according to their score recorded on
previous hole with lowest scorer first with others to follow accordingly.
·
Balls cannot be moved in the sand traps and clubs
cannot be grounded i.e. touch the sand. Also when you enter a sand trap you
should enter from the side where you cross the least amount of sand.
·
Golfers should not walk on other player’s line of putt.
·
Once all players are on the green, flagstick must be
removed or tended with flag removed prior to ball entering the hole.
·
Relief can be taken in situations determined to be ground
under repair. In most cases this area will be marked as such.
·
Carts must be returned to the club house by
·
Persons wishing to play after the completion of the
regulation 9-holes, must pay the green/cart fee at the clubhouse for continue
play.
