Do get :

• A good leather jacket (perferabaly with hood) here a decent one costs ($150- $250)
• Books,as many as you can! Here books are expensive compared to India.
• Leather gloves, belts, wallets. (anything leather is expensive here)
• As many as Jeans (trousers) [remember at UMES most of the time from (september - april) u will be wearing jeans for cold weather]
• If you have glasses get your eyes checked before you are leaving India and also get a spare pair, as here its very expensive.
• Suit if possible, but the only time you wear is for job interviews at the end of MS ( so its up to u)
• A rice cooker(electric) can be bought here , but it will be handy if u can get pressure cooker(3 liter or 5 liter), if u get one dont forget to get spare sets of washers rubbers as here we dont get spares
• Get Medicene(general) for few months which might come in handy first few weeks.
• Transcripts, if u are planning to change school
• Get your dental problems fixed before leaving India, as here it is very expensive and you have to take a exclusive insurance for dental care.
  

Don't get:

• Electrical appliances
• Too many Formal dresses as here most of the time you will be in casual clothing (in student life)
• Spices,Dal , Rice etc. you get all groceries here.
• Dont spend too much on sneakers (shoes) or wrist watches or other electronics as they are cheap here.
