Welcome to the MARS Program
The Math and Related Sciences (MARS) Camp is a two-week residential, summer enrichment program for high school and middle school students. It is held under the direction of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore's (UMES) Department of Education. The camp is located on the UMES campus in Princess Anne, Maryland. (MARS is the successor to the UMES SMART Camp offered in 2004.)
MARS provides an array of courses aimed at engaging students in mathematical and scientific problem solving using various innovative techniques. Through participation in any one of the courses, you will better understand the role of mathematics and science in a society increasingly dependent on technology. Students will emerge from the Camp with increased confidence in themselves as problem solvers.
Experimentation and in-depth exploration of mathematics and science are the hallmarks of the academic programs at MARS. A philosophy focused on cooperative learning, affective education, and intense personal involvement finds expression not only in the academic program, but also in a broad selection of recreational and informative evening activities.
The Federal funding grant that has allowed the MARS camp to operate for the last 25+ years has been severely reduced again in 2013. We are not willing to offer the camp in a second rate manner that would not uphold the camp's high standards. Therefore, with great regret, we must announce that we cannot offer the MARS camp in 2013.
