COACH 401 Practicum/Observation
in Coaching 3cr.
This course provides students with first hand experiences relative
to the coaching profession; students will have opportunities
to work with recognized competent coaches in order to gain direct
incite into the complexities, and joy of effective and professional
coaching of individual sports. Students will have the responsibility
of completing specific professional coaching obligations or duties
as the coach of an individual sport.
COACH 421 Adv.Coach. Tech. I Sp. Skills 2cr.
Students will have the opportunity to learn contemporary skills and
coaching techniques associated with coaching team sports; in addition,
students will examine psychological, sociological, philosophical,
and intellectual components of coaching individual sports. Students
will be required to coach an individual sport in the university’s
intramural sports program and to submit a participation journal
at the conclusion of the season.
COACH 422 Adv./Coach. Tech. II Indiv. Sp. Skills 2cr.
Students will have the opportunity to learn contemporary skills and
coaching techniques associated with coaching team sports; in addition
students will examine the psychological, sociological, philosophical,
and intellectual components of coaching team sports. Students will
be required to coach an individual sport in the university’s
intramural sports program and to submit a participation journal
at the conclusion of the season.
COACH. 441 Coaching and Officiating Sports 2 cr.
This course is designed to provide students with practical opportunities
to employ principles, techniques, rules and regulations necessary
for competently conducting sp9ortr activities. This course is also
structured to succinctly convey to students the importance of obeying
rules and regulations of sporting activities while being guided
by the good principles of this and sportsmanship.

EDHE 104 Women’s Health 2 cr.
This course is designed to help students understand the changes that
have occurred historically in society’s attitudes toward
women and to gain a deeper understanding of their anatomy and physiology.
The course helps the student to develop an awareness and become
more knowledgeable regarding diseases and health problems that
affect women specifically, and learning how to prevent these diseases.
EDHE 107 Human Sexuality 2 cr.
The aim of human sexuality is to provide students with an overview
of the many biological, psychological, sociological, and historical
dimensions of sexuality in a nonjudgmental tone. The main emphasis
will be helping students make responsible decisions that promote
healthy sexual behaviors and well-being.
EDHE 111 Personalized Health
Fitness 3 cr.
Gen Curr Area VI
Study and practice of principles that affect human health. Emphasis
on physical fitness, stress management, nutrition, and weight control
with specific personalized techniques for optimizing health Course
can only be taken once for credit.

EDPE 101 Cardio-Vascular Fit/Slimnastics 1cr.
This course introduces students to basic activities which will engender
significant physical and cardiovascular fitness through the participation
in aerobic activities. This participation will enable them to develop
levels of strength, stamina, flexibility, balance, agility, eye-hand
coordination and kinesthesia perception.
EDPE 102 Lifetime Activities
This course provides students with a comprehensive exposure to lifetime
activities, such as archery, golf, bowling. The purpose is to apprise
individuals of ways whereby one may participate effectively throughout
life in physical activities.
EDPE 103 Techniques of Self-Defense/Karate. 1 cr.
This course gives students with a comprehensive exposure to the fundamental
techniques and procedures necessary for competently performing
martial arts skills; this exposure includes students demonstrating
physical, mental and psychological skills
which are inherently components of martial arts.
EDPE 105 Slimnastics 1 cr.
The purpose of this course is to help students develop their bodies
physically with special emphasis on posture, figure alignment,
body mechanics, diet and weight control through exercise.
EDPE 112 Stunts and Tumbling 1 cr.
This course covers basic knowledge, techniques and practices of fundamental
skills of simple stunts, tumbling, static balance stunts, pyramid
building and floor exercise.
EDPE 121 Elementary Swimming 1 cr.
This course teaches the basic skills of swimming including adjustment
to the water, buoyancy, floating, propulsion through the water
involving coordination of arms and legs in stroking combined
with breathing
and safety.
EDPE 122 Racquet Sports 1 cr.
This course is designed to provide students with excellent opportunities
to learn about and to develop physical, mental, social, and psychological
proficiency associated with racquet sports skills for life-long
participation and enjoyment.
EDPE 123 Tennis I 1 cr.
This course provides students with opportunities to learn progressive
techniques, basic tennis skills and to experience tournament
competition.
EDPE 132 Track and Field 1cr.
Students are provides practical knowledge that will enable them to
analysis of the various techniques and skills required for developing
proficiency in track and field.
EDPE 133 Racquetball 1cr.
This course introduces students to the game of racquetball through
the practical activities of learning strategy for competing in
individual and team tournament competition
EDPE 150 Archery 1cr.
This course provides students with basic skills, rules, techniques
and terminology of archery and opportunities to develop individual
shooting skills.
EDPE 151 Golf 1cr.
This course provides students with opportunities to develop basic
practical skills, rules, techniques and terminology of golf.
EDPE 152 Weight Training 1cr.
This course provides students with necessary knowledge needed to
engage in weight training in order to engender optimum physical
health while working to prevent common health problems association
with insufficient physical activity.
EDPE 153 Wrestling 1cr.
This course will provide students with the correct rules, skills,
techniques, terminology and practice necessary for success while
participating in wrestling activities.
EDPE 161 Boxing 1cr.
This course will provide students with the basic skills and techniques
that are utilized in boxing and are essential personal skills for
self defense.
EDPE 162 Volleyball 1cr.
This course provides students with basic skills, rules, strategies
and terminology that are required for success in playing or observing
a volleyball contest.
EDPE 163 Tecn. & Princ. of Weight Training 1 cr.
This course provides students are provided with opportunities to
comprehend the importance of employing kinesiological principle
while engaging in weight training.
EDPE 171 Fencing 1cr.
This course is designed to provide students with the basic skills
required for successful participation in fencing activities.
EDPE 181 Bowling 1cr.
This course provides students with fundamental skills, techniques
and terminology employed in bowling.
EDPE 200 Intro to Hist./Prin. Of Phys. ED 3cr.
This course provide students with a comprehensive review of the professional
history of physical education, sport and athletics and the determining
psychological, sociological, intellectual and philosophical principles
which fostered and led to the perennial development of contemporary
study of physical education.
EDPE 211 Dance 1cr.
This course provides students with basic movement skills and basic
Modern Dance techniques for the development of strength, flexibility,
poise, rhythm, communication of ideas and feelings through dance.
EDPE 212 Dance II 1cr.
This course enables students to acquire knowledge, study patterns,
structures and history of a variety of popular folk dances.
EDPE 253 Principles/Techniques of Wt. Trng. 1cr.
Students are taught the significance of weight training as a preventative
tool to combat debilitating problems associated with poor health.
This course will provide students the opportunity to design and
participate in an individualistic and effective weight training
program.
EDPE 310 Physical Education For the Disabled I cr.
This course provides students with opportunities to examine perennial
professional efforts to increase to the effectiveness in providing
physical education for the disabled. Specifically, emphases will
be placed in the area of individualized sports and adjustments
needed for optimum participation by the disabled.
EDPE 320Physical Education For the Disabled II 1cr.
This course provides students with opportunities to examine perennial
professional efforts to increase to the effectiveness in providing
physical education for the disabled specifically.
EDPE 362 Advanced Swimming 2cr.
This course provides students with opportunities in advanced swimming
and lifesaving skills and procedures. Pr4requisites: EDPE 222 or
a current intermediate swimming certificate.
EDPE 411 Adapted Physical Education 3cr.
This course provides students with the Application of bio-medical
physiological principles in the teaching of exceptional students.
As well as assisting prospective teachers to deal effectively with
a typical student.

EXSC200 Introduction to Exercise
Science 3 Cr.
An overview of the field of Exercise Science; it’s development,
professional activities and sub-disciplines.
EXSC251 Stress Management 3 Cr.
Teaching basic methods of dealing with stress reactions by one of
many different methods ranging from action steps in problem solving
to reframing interpretation of events and circumstances.
EXSC301 Measurement in Exercise Science 3 Cr.
Use and interpretation of basic statistical techniques in the application
of Exercise Science. Including measures of central tendency, variability,
graphic representation, large sample, error theory and simple correlation
analysis as applied particularly in evaluation of test material.
EXSC302 Prev and Care of Athletic Injuries 3 Cr.
An integrated interpretation of the principals of Anatomy, Physiology
and Kinesiology as related to the prevention and care of athletic
injuries. Students will receive laboratory experiences in emergency
treatment of athletic injuries, taping, strapping, and other supportive
equipment designed to prevent or minimize injuries peculiar to
athletes. Prerequisites: BIOL232 and EXSC311.
EXSC311 Kinesiology 3 Cr.
Gross anatomy of skeletal and muscular systems. Analysis and study
of human movement with special reference to anatomical principals
underlying human movement. Three hour s lecturer and two hours
laboratory per week. Prerequisites: BIOL 231 and 232.
EXSC312L Kinesiology Lab 1 Cr.
EXSC332 Exercise Physiology 3 Cr.
A comprehensive study of the extent and nature of body variations
as a result of physical exertion. The student will receive laboratory
experience dealing with the oxidation processes of the body in
terms of the utilization of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. Three
hours and two hours laboratory per week . Prerequisites Biology
332.

EXSC341 First Aid & CPR 1 Cr.
Basic Principals of spontaneous and temporary care given to victims
of accidents or sudden illness as prescribed by the Am. Red Cross.
EXSC352 Exercise and Sport Psychology 3 Cr.
An in-depth study, comparison and analysis of human behavior while
participating in sport and physical activity.
EXSC355 Exercise Testing and Prescription 3 Cr.
This course addresses the necessity of correctly employing principles
of long-term and short-term adaptations to anaerobic and aerobic
exercise training. Students will gain competence in applying rehabilitation
treatment for sport related injuries. Prerequisite: Ex Sc 311.
EXSC360 Exercise and Sport Nutrition 3 Cr.
This course provides students with a key to understanding interactions
between nutrition and exercise concepts a well as practical applications.
EXSC361 Practicum in Exercise Science 3 Cr.
Students will receive practical, hands-on experiences at a professional
work site utilizing exercise science principles.
EXSC363 Motor Learning 3 Cr.
An introduction to the principles and concepts of Motor Learning
and Motor performance. Methodology, individuals differences, control
of movement, motivation and timing are major topics to be discussed.
EXSC365 Contempt Issues in Ex. Sc & Sport 3 Cr.
Students will have opportunities to investigate and learn first-hand
information about developing issues in Exercise Science. Some of
the issues are: youth fitness, geriatric fitness, youth sports,
sport for the aged, resistance training for prepubescent athletes,
demographics of aging and physiology of aging.
EXSC369 Research Methods in Ex Sc 3 Cr.
Surveys the scope of literature and sources of knowledge in exercise
and sport science. Measurement, evaluation, and research methods
applied to selective problems of professional practice.
EXSC382 Socio-Cult Analy/ Sp & Ex Sc 3 Cr.
Analyses of sports and exercise in social -cultural contexts. Topics include
professional sports, intercollegiate sports, youth sports, violence in sports,
gender & sports, ethnicity and sports, and media and sports.
EXSC402 Practicum/Observ. in Adapted Phy.ED 3cr.
Students will have opportunities to directly work with disabled individuals
in providing substantive physical education activities for the
disabled in a community facility.
EXSC431 Leadership and Organ of Ex. Sc. 3 Cr.
A thorough investigation of administrative theories and procedures
in terms of establishing and maintaining exercise science programs;
curriculum construction, community relations, staff and other professional
personnel, budget planning and policy.
EXSC490 Internship in Ex Science 10 Cr.
A structured off- campus learning experiences designed to provide
senior students with a terminal professional experience that permits
first-hand, direct practical and professional experiences in Exercise
Science. Prerequisite: Graduating senior.
EXSC499 Independent Study in Ex Sc 3 Cr.
This course will provide senior students with opportunities to engage
in in–depth-study of any professional area or related areas
germane to Exercise Science. Prerequisite: Senior academic standing.
Recreation

RECR 211 Introduction to Recreation Ed. 3 cr.
Historical and philosophical study of recreation relative to organization
and administration of recreational programs and facilities. This
educational experience is designed to investigate recreational
needs of the contemporary increase in leisure time, special interests
and needs of all individuals.
RECR 212 Basic Methods in Camping and Outdoor Recreation 3cr.
This course is designed to provide theoretical and practical experiences
in basic methods and philosophical thoughts in contemporary camping
and outdoor recreation. Students must participate in at least two
overnight camping experiences.
RECR 412 Leadership in Community Rec. 3 cr.
An analysis of the historical, philosophical concepts and professional
principles involved in the organization and administration of community
based recreational activities.
Prerequisites: RECR 211.
RECR 413 Therapeutic Recreation 3 cr.
An investigation of the of the physical psychological and sociological
deficiencies and illnesses as they impact upon various recreational
skills activities and programs. Methods currently recommended for
the implementation of these programs will be studied.
