UNIVERSITY MOTOR POOL SERVICES
University Vehicle Usage
Rental of University owned vehicles are based on first- come first-serve basis. A vehicle may be rented for University official business only. The driver of the vehicle must be an employee, student or official volunteer to the using department and cleared through the MVA and fleet services. University vehicles are only permitted to be driven within a 500 mile radius of the University. All other destinations must be satisfied by using departmental budgets. If a vehicle is unavailable, one will be eligible for non- availability funds.
USAGE OF 12 and 15-PASSENGER VANS This requires a training class regarding the operation of larger vehicles. Before any driver is authorized to drive a large University Passenger van, that driver must have taken and successfully completed a passenger van driver course given by the motor pool. Driver training courses will be conducted as needed and when schedules permit. It is suggested that a class size be limited to ten (10) trainees, when possible. Training will consist of:
· Driving skills, evaluation · Vehicle inspection procedures · Driver checklist sign-off and certification procedures (including the fueling of the vehicle and the cleanliness of it). · At no time will a University van be operated with more than twelve (12) occupants (driver and eleven (11) other occupants) · At no time will a University van be operated with any of the occupants, including the driver wearing a seatbelt.
UNIVERSITY VEHICLE CHARGES Rental charges for university vehicle will be provided as needed
SERVICES A university vehicle may not travel beyond a 500 mile radius of UMES.
