The Central Receiving division is responsible for handling the shipping receiving and distribution of the goods to meet the needs of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.  Our staff consists of two Storekeepers and one Service Worker.  We are often assisted by work study students throughout the year.  Central Receiving is the primary short stay storage facility for the campus.

Central Receiving serves as the point of contact for deliveries, pick-ups and distribution of parcels and equipment for the University, thereby serving every department, division and school at UMES.  In addition to serving these primary responsibilities, we provide a host of other services:

For students, Central Receiving provides expedient notification for parcels received, via telephone or mail.  We provide personal shipping needs and accept parcel returns being paid by vendor.

All parcels ten pounds and under for faculty, staff and students are to be picked up from Central Receiving.  Notification will be given for all parcels upon arrival.  Ground parcels over ten pounds will be delivered normally within 24 hours of receipt.

In addition, the Central Receiving:

· Schedules fill-ups and processes invoices for No. 2 Fuel Oil, Propane, Unleaded Gas and No. 6 Fuel Oil.

· Orders, schedule tank chemical fill-ups, tank chemical returns and processes all invoices.

· Prepares journals for billing on a monthly basis.

· Maintains the blanket purchase order account balances on a daily basis.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating the mode and routing for incoming and outgoing shipments, auditing freight billing for correctness, preparing damage reports for claims on delivers and optimizing the cost of transportation.
