CHEM101W
Presented by Amelia Potter
CHEM 101W is a web-based chemistry designed for General Education and Health Science Majors. For specific items covered, please see the syllabus listed under "Instructor Information" in WEBCT. You will need to select the WEB CT course CHEM 101G to complete this course.
This course is self paced and not recommended for the student with poor self discipline traits.
The course will be conducted as a series of Powerpoint lectures, which will be hosted on my CHEM 101 web page. These lectures will follow the text book (General Chemistry by Timberlake) listed in the syllabus. In addition, you are expected to read the textbook. Odd numbered problems (the answers are listed at the end of the chapter) will be assigned as homework to test your skills prior to testing.
Additionally, we will use WEB CT for student-student and student-instructor interactions. I plan to use the discussion board on WEB CT as a tool for discussions, questions and answers. Students are encouraged to communicate with each other. Please use the following pathway for questions, prior to contacting me directly, so that we can achieve class bonding that accompanies regular courses. The sequence for Q&A will be first through student-student contact via the discussion boards; second, class-instructor discussion (Discussion Board) when guidance is needed; and lastly, real time discussions between class, or student, and instructor (Virtual Office Hours in the Chat Room). Please use the email function for one on one correspondence if your individual questions that were not answered during the general discussion times, or if you need any clarification.
Tests will be posted in a timely fashion on the Test tool of WEB-CT. Tests will be graded instantly and may be taken as many times as necessary to pass. The following test will not open until a grade of 70 is achieved. Please note individual test item instructions, for instance, the number of decimal places. WEB CT is unforgiving and your answer, although correct, will be marked wrong. WEB CT also uses randomization of test questions, so you may not receive the same questions with successive exams.
Outside assignments may also be used. These will be posted on the discussion board and will utilize the White Board Tool.
If you have any questions, please refer to my homepage for contacts.
