1. WELCOME BY THE CHAIR

The minutes of the November 2002 meeting were approved unanimously.
3. COMMITTEE REPORTS
a) Ad-hoc Grievance Committee
The Chair, Dr. Gupta, presented the report which recommended that all matters pertaining to faculty grievance be handled by one campus-wide grievance committee to be located in the Faculty Assembly. After considerable debate, the recommendation was approved.
b) Academic Affairs
The Chair, Ms Demanche, began her presentation by submitting the following list of the courses that had been approved during the October meeting:
i. Biology 213 L Principles of Biology III Lab
ii. Biology 404 Conservation Biology
iii. Biology 211C Principles of Biology III
iv. NUDT 210 Elements of Nutrition
v. MCCJ 625 Research Methods in Criminology and Criminal Justice
vi. Biology 404 Conservation Biology
vii. Biology 432 Herpetology
viii. ENVS 301 Marine Chemistry
Continuing, she reported that her committee did not find any fault with the four new programs it had reviewed from the following departments:
x. Aviation Sciences
xi. Rehabilitation Services
xii. Physician Assistant
xiv. English and Modern Languages
Consequently, all four submissions were approved by Senate. Furthermore, in order to expedite the processing of programs in the future, the Chair of the committee was mandated to approve those submissions that entail only typographical errors or minor changes like course numbers and then present her action to Senate for ratification.
c) Athletics
The Chair of the committee reported that student athletes were graduating at a higher rate than ever before. In addition, he informed Senate of the litigation in progress concerning some of the new athletic facilities on campus.
NEW BUSINESS
The Chair of Senate, Dr. Leon Coursey, was reminded to arrange a presidential luncheon to enable the President, Dr. Thelma Thompson to meet informally with the senators.
