                        Minutes of September 9, 2002 Meeting

 

  1. WELCOME BY THE CHAIR

The meeting began at 11:15 a.m.  The former Senate Chair, Dr. Ali Eydaghi, welcomed everyone to the meeting and inaugurated the following 2002 – 2003 officers:

.     Dr. Leon Coursey                     Chair

.     Mrs. Theresa Dadson               Vice Chair

.     Dr. Clement Okafor                  Secretary

.     Dr. Ali Eydaghi             Parliamentarian.

Thereafter, he formally handed over the affairs of the Senate to Dr. Coursey.

 

  1. MINUTES OF MAY MEETING

The minutes of the May 2002 meeting were approved.

 

  1. CHAIR’S REMARKS

The Chair welcomed everybody, particularly the new President of UMES, Dr. Thelma Thompson, and the members of her Executive Council to the meeting.  He remarked that never before had a President of UMES attended such a meeting in the company of the Executive Council.  Continuing, the Chair hoped that the President’s presence at the meeting was an indication of good things to come in the future.

 

  1. COMMITTEE REPORTS

None

 

  1. PRESIDENT’S RESPONSE

The President announced that she welcomed active Senate contribution to the shared governance of the University.  Furthermore, she requested Senate permission to address the students for two hours during the regular class schedule.   The request was later moved as a motion and was adopted by unanimous acclamation.
