Ad-Hoc Registration Committee

Thursday May 11, 2006

11:00am

Kiah Hall 1136

Attendees: Dean Cooledge, Abhijit Nagchaudhuri, Mae Palmer, Tselate Talley and Mark Williams, Kaye Pinhey, Kenny Gaston

Minutes from the April 20th meeting were accepted as written.

Dr. Williams announced that the committee’s charge has been extended through the summer and fall 2006 terms.

Dr. Williams reported that he proposed to the Senate the policy of using the date just before the start of the term as the date to enter for students who have never reported to class, for the purposes of entering grades.

Mr. Gaston said we can establish active/inactive lists of students in Peoplesoft for advisors.

IT is currently working on the request to limit accessibility to enable a student to enroll to advisor, chair and administrative assistant.

Regarding the request from Gene Bass and the linking of his biology course and biology lab.  The committee feels that this is an Academic Affairs issue, not merely a Peoplesoft issue, and must be resolved at a departmental level and through Academic Affairs.  Dr. Williams will send Ms. Demanche a letter stating our refusal to address this issue further.

The Add and Drop forms have been eliminated from the registration protocol. This issue was proposed at the March Senate meeting, but still needs Senate action.

The new Withdrawal form is at the print shop and will be ready in time for the fall semester.  The new withdrawal period ends at the end of pre-registration.

The committee discussed various issues regarding student placement in Math 101.  Increased University enrollment will put additional stress on Math 101 enrollment.  Mr. Pinhey offered to help integrate Tegrity software into ENGL 101 instruction.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:10pm
