Minorities in Agriculture,
Natural Resources,
and Related Sciences
Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources,
and Related Sciences (MANRRS) began as a vision shared by a group
of agriculture students and faculty members at Michigan State University
and at Pennsylvania State University. Their goal was to develop
a partnership between minority agriculture and natural resource
students and professionals from academic institutions, governmental
agencies, and industry. Their commitment led to the first national
conference, held at Michigan State University in 1986. There are
now over 2,000 student and professional members representing more
than 50 academic institutions and the public and private sector.
Student membership has expanded to include individuals studying
business and economics, computer science, and natural science (chemistry
and biology). The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Chapter of
MANRRS was incorporated in 1987 and in 1988, the Third Annual MANRRS
National Conference was held at UMES. Our chapter objectives are:
 |
Foster a bond of fellowship among the students,
faculty, and administrators in the colleges or schools represented
by our student membership; |
 |
Encourage scholarly achievement, advancement,
and excellence among the members; |
 |
Assist in the recruitment and placement of ethnic
minorities in professional positions within their respective
fields of interest; |
 |
Promote career and academic counseling for undergraduate
and graduate students, and enhance their academic, professional,
and leadership development; |
