Collaboration with Secondary Education to Enhance Agricultural Science Curricula

NON-TECHNICAL SUMMARY: Partnerships with K-12 institutions that provide a mechanism for smooth transitions from high school to post-secondary education are important at four-year institutions. Often, high school educators need to update their content knowledge and re-acquaint themselves with college programs to better prepare students for college expectations. UMES has the interest, expertise, and facilities to collaborate with secondary teachers to enhance their course instruction. Furthermore, this proposal seeks to expose secondary students to agriculture through the development of instructional units that reveal the connection between science and agriculture, thus broadening students' awareness of the extensive nature and diversity of the food and agricultural sciences.

The purpose of this project is to build stronger linkages between the secondary schools and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore to promote and strengthen agricultural sciences.
