• PEER EDUCATION NETWORK

The ATOD Prevention Center is affiliated with the Bacchus and Gamma International Peer Education Network which is made up of nearly 800 peer education groups on college campuses. These groups express their leadership by educating their friends about important issues like alcohol abuse, tobacco prevention, impaired driving, sexual responsibility, sexual assault, and healthy lifestyle choices.

Peer Educators conduct monthly programs in the UMES residential halls and assist with the planning and implementation of awareness activities and events. Program topics include alcohol education, binge/hig risk drinking, alcohol poisoning, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, marijuana, tobacco and other atod areas.

Those individuals who are chosen to be part of our team will be students who have a desire to educate their fellow peers about alcohol and drugs and the consequences associated with its misuse and are committed to being part of the solution. They will be responsible young adults who accept leadership roles, possess excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrate critical thinking skills to achieve their goals.
