A first-year student is defined as any applicant who has not taken any college-level coursework after completing high school. The University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks to admit students whose academic preparation is strong, who desire to succeed, and who are highly motivated academically,
professionally, and personally.

To be considered for admission as a freshman the following must be submitted before the application deadline for the semester of interest:
2. Official copy of the high school transcript showing grades earned through the junior year, courses in progress in the senior year, and a cumulative grade point average.
3. Official score report of the SAT or ACT with the Writing Component
Highly recommended, yet not required:
4. Type-written (250 words) personal statement that expresses who you are and why you want to attend UMES.
5. Letter of Recommendation from a Teacher, Counselor, School or Community Leader.
