Residential Meal Plan Requirements
Students residing in a traditional residence hall or the Student Apartments are required to
participate on the meal plan by selecting either the 19 Meal Plan (19 meals per week -
$2285.50) or 14 Meal Plan (14 meals per week - $2170.50). Your student account will be
charged regardless of whether you enter The Plateau (Thompson Hospitality) or not. The meal
plan is a requirement for those residential areas.
All meal plans can be used at the “all-you-care-to-eat” Plateau Dining Hall, or Plateau Dining Hall Takeout. Enjoy an array of comfort foods, delicious pizzas, grilled sandwiches and vegetarian options in a fun, comfortable atmosphere. Bonus points can be used in the retail locations.
Meal Plan Bonus Points
After ADD/DROP period, Bonus Points will be added to your Bonus Point Account if you have
the meal plan. To receive the points, $100.00 for those with MP19 and $75.00 for MP14 and
MP10 and $50.00 for those with MP5. You must have completed your Payment Confirmation
and sign up for the meal plan prior to the ADD/DROP period. Funds in this account can only
be used in areas serviced by Thompson Hospitality. They are: The Plateau, OASIS, CHICK-FILA,
THE SHORE, AUSTIN GRILL/STARBUCKS and Café’ Grande. You will not be able to add funds to
this account since it is a USE IT OR LOSE IT ACCOUNT. Bonus Points cannot be transferred and
will be forfeited if not used by the end of the semester.
Adding the Meal Plan
Individuals residing in the Student Residential Complex, HAWKS Landing, Arden’s Run and
Talon’s Square (leased housing managed by the Office of Residence Life) are not required to
participate on the meal plan. However, you can elect to do so by visiting Hawkville and
completing the Residential Meal Plan Application. When you complete the application, you will
be able to select either the 19 meal plan (19 meals per week - $2285.50) or 14 meal plan (14
meals per week - $2170.50 per week). This application will be available throughout the
semester.
Students who are not residing in any residential area managed by the Office of Residence Life
can select either 19 Meal Plan (19 meals per week - $2285.50), 14 Meal Plan (14 meals per week
- $2170.50) 10 meal plan (10 meals per week- $1771.50) or the 5 Meal Plan (5 meals per week -
$902.50). If you wish to select a meal plan, you can do so by visiting www.umes.edu/auxiliary
and completing the Non-Residential Meal Plan Application. This application will be available
throughout the semester.

Meal Plan Application
Changes to the Meal Plan
Meal plan changes will be permitted from one meal plan to another any time prior to the
Sunday before the semester starts. Once school starts meal plan changes will not be
permitted.
Individuals who wish to make a change in their meal plan must send an email to
hawkcenter@umes.edu
Cancellation of the Meal Plan
If you have selected or have been charged for the meal plan and currently reside in the Student
Residential Complex, HAWKS Landing, Hawks Run (leased housing managed by the Office of
Residence Life) and do not wish to participate, you should immediately submit a cancellation
request by submitting a meal plan withdraw application by going to www.umes.edu/auxiliary In
order to receive a full credit for the meal plan you must submit your application no later than
the Sunday before the semester starts.
If you are a nonresidential student and wish to cancel the meal plan, you should immediately
submit a cancellation request in writing, via email to hawkcenter@umes.edu no later than the
Sunday, before the semester starts - to receive a full credit.
After the semester starts if you wish to cancel the meal plan and you are eligible to do so, you
must submit your meal plan withdraw application, by going to www.umes.edu/auxiliary Board

*Disclosure:
For purpose of billing, the University uses Sunday as the first day of the week and
Saturday as the last day. Any part of a week is considered to be a full week. For example,
if a student applies for a meal plan on a Friday, the student will be charged for a full
week’s meal plan rate all thought the week ends on Saturday and new week begins on
Sunday.
