Meet the Counseling Services Staff

  • Counseling Services is staffed by professional counselors including a consulting psychiatrist. The staff members of Counseling Services are committed to providing comprehensive care in an atmosphere of confidentiality and respect. It is our belief that the whole person (mind, body and spirit) must be addressed for the individual to achieve wellness.

    Ms. Kate Kent, MSW, LCSW-C

    Ms. Kate Kent received her Master’s Degree in Social Work at University of Maryland Baltimore School of Social Work, is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker and has been a counselor for 20 years.  Most recently Kate was a counselor at the Worcester County Health Department.  She has also worked at Salisbury University as a counselor and instructor.  She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers and volunteers for the Red Cross as a part of the Disaster Mental Health Team.  A focus on client strengths and a nonhierarchical view of the treatment relationship, as well as Eastern philosophy influence her work.  She can be reached by phone at (410) 651-6452 and by email at kkent@umes.edu.   


    Deborah Williams, M.S.
    Interim Counselor


    Mrs. Deborah Williams graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with both her Master’s degree in Rehabilitation and Counseling and her undergraduate degree in Business Administration. She has worked in the counseling Center for 14 years providing administrative support and creating a comfortable environment for all the students at UMES.
     
    Mrs. Williams joined the counseling team as a Mental Health Counselor in 2017. She has been trained to provide initial help to individuals experiencing mental health problems. Some of her areas of interests include self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and stress management. She also continuously seeking to gain more skills and broaden her education. 


    Talmadge C. Reeves, MD
    Consulting Psychiatrist


    Dr. Talmadge Reeves is a psychiatrist in Salisbury, Maryland. He received his medical degree from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine and has been in practice for 59 years.
