  • Student Enrichment and Experiential Learning Program

    The Student Enrichment and Experiential Learning (SEEL) program brings high school students in Maryland’s Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for a seven-week internship, where students will conduct a research project in one of the key focus areas of the Center. Students will be exposed to the UMES campus, work directly with a faculty member and graduate students, and researchers. This is a paid, full-time, non-residential program for students with daily transportation to UMES.

    Savannah State University Coast Camp

    Coast Camp is a half-day ocean science program that teaches students about the ocean in an interactive, hands on curriculum. This academic camp utilizes Science, Math and Writing skills in conjunction with the Ocean Literacy Principles. The program is free and open to students between the ages of 7-18 years old.

    Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program

    The Hutton Junior Fisheries Biology Program is a paid summer internship and mentoring program for high school students, and is sponsored by the American Fisheries Society (AFS).Selected students known as “Hutton Scholars,” are matched and mentored by a fisheries professional to enjoy a hands-on fisheries science experience in a marine and/or freshwater setting. Hutton Scholars who successfully complete the program receive a $4,000 scholarship as well as valuable work experience in an exciting and rewarding field.

    Woods Hole Science Aquarium High School Internship

    Summer interns spend anywhere from two to five weeks in the aquarium, working approximately 30 hours per week with the professional staff to care for our collection of marine animals from New England waters. Interns are trained to serve as assistant naturalists on public shoreside collecting walks. Summer interns also participate in the Careers in Marine Science Seminar, a series of meetings with scientists, hands-on activities, tours of laboratories, and field trips to other aquariums.
