    THE DEAN'S MESSAGE 

    Thank you for visiting the website of the Graduate School of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). UMES is a Carnegie classified Doctoral Research University-STEM dominant, and is one of eleven degree granting campuses in the University System of Maryland. It is ranked in the top tier of Historically Black Colleges and Universities by U.S. News and World Report and is one of the most diverse campuses in the University System of Maryland with students from more than 60 countries including the USA, Israel, Nigeria, Puerto Rico, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, India, Iran, Russia, Jamaica, Sri Lanka and Haiti.

    UMES is an 1890 Land Grant institution and continues to build on its strengths of teaching, research and service. We offer 21 graduate degree programs which include the research doctorates in Toxicology, Marine Estuarine Environmental Science, Food Science and Technology, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Organizational Leadership. Also, we offer the Education Leadership doctorate which prepares students for administrative positions in the school system. Another of our signature programs is the doctorate in Physical Therapy in which students continue to receive 100% pass rate on the licensure exam. UMES is the only HBCU in Maryland to offer a Professional Science Master’s degree program. This program in Quantitative Fisheries and Resource Economics prepares students for positions as fisheries stock assessment specialists.  

    The remaining master’s programs include Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education, Criminology and Criminal Justice, Career and Technology Education, Toxicology, Applied Computer Science, Counselor Education and Teaching. Graduate course offerings are tailored to both full and part-time students. For your convenience we have provided relevant information on the programs and related areas.
