    Certificate Requirements

    Students are required to complete four, 3-credit hour courses.  The required courses are listed below.  With the exception of RUHD 504, courses in the certificate program can be taken in any order. However, students must successfully complete RUHD 501, 502, and 503 in order to enroll in RUHD 504.
    In order to receive the certificate, students must complete the program with an overall grade point average of 3.0 (B).  Students are allowed to make a grade of C in one course while enrolled in the program.

    • RUHD 501: Fundamentals of Rural Health, Health Disparities, and Inequities (3 credits) - This course will provide students with an in-depth examination of rural nomenclature and rural health.  Cultural influences on health and health disparities and rural ramifications will also be discussed.
    • RUHD 502: Rural Health Policy, Program Development and Community Engagement (3 credits) - This course will delve into the local, state, and national rural health policy processes and procedures.  The student will gain a deep understanding of health policy development and implementation.
    • RUHD 503: Rural Health Disparities: Social Determinants of Health (SDH), Contributing Factors, Key Diseases and Disorders (3 credits) - This course will examine rural health disparities and the significance of social determinants of health. The course will examine the range of potential contributing factors related to rural cancer morbidity and mortality and other disorders. 
    • RUHD 504: Rural Health and Health Disparities/Inequities Special Project (Capstone) (3 credits) - The special project will provide students with an in-depth project experience that applies the content areas from the program in a real-world context.
