Austin Cox Appointed to Board of Visitors
PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Austin Cox Jr., president and CEO of Austin Cox Mechanical Inc. and Cedar Landing Development Inc. both located in Salisbury, has recently been appointed to the UMES Board of Visitors for a three year term on the recommendation of President Thompson.
The purpose of the UMES Board of Visitors is to advance the mission of the university by providing advice to the president on issues related to community relations, institutional development, governmental issues and alumni affairs.
“Mr. Cox has long been an advocate of the University through his community leadership and involvement,” said President Thompson. “We now look forward to his invaluable service on the Board of Visitors.”
Cox took over the family-owned business that started in 1947. The business provides electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning services to residential and commercial customers throughout Delmarva. He is also a residential and commercial developer in Somerset County. He has developed Harbour Light Condominiums in Crisfield and the Chase Plaza Business Park in Princess Anne, which will consist of professional office space, a retail center and restaurants.
Actively involved in the community, Cox is the chairman of the Somerset County Economic Development Commission, a member of the Greater Salisbury Committee, a member of the Board of Directors at PNC Bank, a member of the UMES Business Executive Advisory Council and holds membership in various trade and chamber organizations.
Cox is a native of Crisfield, Md. He studied at Salisbury University and Virginia Weslyan College. He resides in Princess Anne with his wife, Neda. They have three children, Chelsea, Christopher and Hunter.
