UMES to Host Health and Wellness Festival
PRINCESS ANNE – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will host its 12th annual Health and Wellness Festival on Wednesday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the ballroom of the Student Services Center. The event will feature health exhibits, screenings and information that will be provided by more than 50 businesses, community agencies, health organizations and university representatives.
“Our goal is to disperse information that promotes health and prevention to UMES students, faculty, and staff as well as to community members,” said Janet Mutschler, event coordinator and director of clinical education in the UMES Department of Physical Therapy.
Local health organizations such as Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Atlantic General Hospital, Healthy-U of Delmarva and the Somerset County Health Department are scheduled to be in attendance.
During the event, participants will be able to receive the injectable form of the H1N1 influenza vaccine at no cost.
A variety of free screenings will also be offered at the festival. These include fitness, blood pressure, body composition, strength, balance and posture.
Additionally, participants can check out interactive demonstrations and receive information on topics that focus on healthy living. Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day.
The UMES Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Prevention Center is helping to sponsor this free event.
