PRINCESS ANNE, MD-Area musicians from Parkside, James M. Bennett, Washington, Crisfield, Snow Hill, Delmar, Holly Grove, Seaford, Laurel and Colonel Richardson high schools will join the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Wind Ensemble and the UMES Concert Choir in a performance on Sunday, April 25, at 4 p.m. in the Ella Fitzgerald Center for the Performing Arts.  The concert also features community musicians and UMES alumni.

"There isn't an audition process, so interested instrumental and choral students who may or may not have had the opportunity to be in the All-Shore or All-County bands and choirs can come and play with musicians of a high caliber," said Dr. John Lamkin, band director, UMES.   "They can come to a college and improve musically and see artists who continue to play throughout their life."

The concert opens with the UMES Wind Ensemble performing "Procession of the Nobles," a Cortège from the Opera "Mlada,"  composed by Nicholas Rimsky-Korsakov.  An overture on themes from "Porgy and Bess" will feature "It Ain't Necessarily So," "Crab Man," "Summertime" and "Bess, You Is My Woman Now."  The UMES Concert Choir under the direction of Dr. Sheila McDonald Harleston will perform "Seek the Lord" and "I Want to Live With God."  Heartwarming pieces, such as "Homeward Bound" and "The Power of the Dream," will be played by the UMES Honors Band and Choir. The UMES Trumpet Trio will perform "Bugler's Holiday."  Kyle Mills, a senior music education major with a trumpet concentration, will conduct a piece called "Gathering Places," which was composed by Pierre La Plante. The concert will conclude with "The Invincible Eagle" by the great composer, John Philip Sousa.

The UMES Honors Band and Choir Concert is free and open to the public.  For more information, call 410-651-6571.
