Concert Choir Performs at UMES

    Concert Choir - Hawaii TourPRINCESS ANNE, MD - A tradition for the past decade, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Concert Choir will perform a fall concert on Sunday, November 9, at 4 p.m. in the Ella Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center.

    The theme, "Sights and Sounds of Honolulu, Hawaii," depicts the music the choir performed while on tour.  Every spring the choir travels abroad to perform and glean information about another country's people and their culture.  Their spring '08 tour included venues such as Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Honolulu, Aliamanu Military Reservation in Aliamanu, the Hale Koa Hotel in Honolulu and the military s Schofield Barracks Chapel.

    Works by Bach, Tschesnokoff, Thompson, Clausen, Rutter, Hailstork, Powell, Curtis, Liebau, Rose/Youmans, Morris, Wise and Hogan will be performed during the concert. A special guest soprano, Patricia Saunders Nixon of Norfolk, Va., will also take the stage.  Accompanying Nixon to UMES, the Norfolk State University Vocal Jazz Ensemble's voices will be heard in the concert. She serves as the vocal instructor for the ensemble.

    Nixon has performed with the Virginia Opera Association, the Virginia Symphony Pops and the I. Sherman Greene Chorale.  She is a member of the Tidewater Area Musicians of the National Association of Negro Musicians, the Virginia Music Education Association of MENC, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
