PRINCESS ANNE, MD - Amid the flurry of activity in Raleigh, NC, that is the annual Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC), a member of the UMES family was honored. Former UMES Vice Chancellor Joel Mack has been selected for the MEAC Hall of Fame. Mack served as president of MEAC after his retirement from UMES.

The invitation sent to Mack by the MEAC Commissioner Dennis E. Thomas commends him for his "outstanding successes as an administrator in the MEAC and for your superb professional achievements in your community and state."

Mack served UMES for more than 20 years, 15 as vice chancellor for administrative affairs (from 1972-86). He joined the University as assistant professor of mathematics in 1966. He returned to teaching - at community colleges near his Virginia home - when he retired from UMES in 1989. At 80, he continues to volunteer to help young people and is involved in community projects sponsored by Focus on Youth, the YMCA and the Mayo Missionary Baptist Church.
