Stephen L. McDaniel_2014PRINCESS ANNE, MD - (June 10, 2014) - Stephen L. McDaniel, a senior administrator at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, has been re-accredited by Certified Fund Raising Executives International.

McDaniel, who accepted an appointment in October 2013 as UMES' interim vice president for Institutional Advancement, has held the CRFE credential continually since 1996.

"The CFRE credential was created to identify, for the public and employees, those individuals who possess the knowledge, skills and commitment to perform fundraising duties in an effective and ethical manner," said Jim Caldarola, the immediate past chair of CFRE International.

A CFRE credential is good for three years and represents a commitment to continuing education and adherence to professional standards by 5,000-plus fundraisers who hold it.

Prior to joining UMES, McDaniel worked at Norfolk (Va.) State University, where he coordinated that institution's fundraising activities.

In a career spanning three decades, McDaniel has done fundraising and marketing for nine other institutions, including Alabama A&M, Alcorn State, Fayetteville State, North Carolina A&T State, Tuskegee and the University of Maryland at College Park.

He worked 18 years for The United Negro College Fund, which focuses on generating scholarship support for deserving students at the nation's private historically black institutions. He also has been a successful fundraiser on the international level.

McDaniel earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and a Certificate in Managing Institutional Advancement from the University of Chicago.

UMES has three administrators with the CFRE credential. Earlier this year, McDaniel's colleague, Veronique Diriker, earned her initial certification and Kimberly Dumpson, who previously headed fundraising for UMES, is also a Certified Fund Raising Executive.
