PRINCESS ANNE, MD - (May 2, 2011) - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore's 2011 Graduating Senior Show, "Art through our Eyes," will be on display at the Mosely Gallery from May 5 - 19.

An opening reception for the bi-annual exhibit - which features paintings, graphic illustrations, photography and comic book art by UMES seniors - will be held on Thursday, May 5, from 4-6 p.m.

"My artwork is a direct reflection of who I am as a person," said Katherine Brown, one of six artists showcasing their work. "I do all of my art in the moment and find it varies daily. Art is an excellent way to express yourself."

"Art through our Eyes" participants also include Robert Bennett, Yasmin Dunwell, Josh Herstein, Vivienne McCabe, and Stephanie Whitley, said Dr. Anke Van Wagenberg, gallery director.

"A person makes art because there is something in that individual's DNA that compels him or her to do so," said Whitley, who completed her internship at the Mosely Gallery. "For that person to deny art - it would be like denying his or her own existence."

Events at the Mosely Gallery are made possible with the generous support of the Maryland State Arts Council and the Somerset County Arts Council. The exhibits are free and open to the public.

The gallery is located in the Arts and Technology building on the UMES campus. It is open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about upcoming events, call 410-651-7770, e-mail gallery@umes.edu or visit www.umes.edu/arts
